In order to add electric or electronic hardware to a fire rated door, wiring must run through the door to connect to the hardware. A path for the wire, known as a raceway, needs to be made in the door. Only limited field modifications of fire doors are allowed. Raceways are allowed to be made as long as they are done by a certified installer. Elaad of Precision Lock and Safe is an Intertek Certified Raceway installer for both wood and hollow metal fire rated doors.
